There are so many things to do in Madeira, here are just a few ideas of what is on offer...

Chill out!  Have a leisurely sauna in the Wellness Room. Laze by the pool. Enjoy the sea view. Treat yourself to a relaxing massage, spa or beauty treatment.

Say Ola! Wander around the little village of Arco da Calheta and meet the neighbours. Buy fresh bread from the local bakery. Visit the pretty church. Visit the golden sandy beach in nearby Calheta, and check out the local shops and restaurants.

Find Funchal!  Visit the capital city, just thirty minutes drive away. Once there, tour the town on an open topped double-decker bus. Wander around the cobbled back streets or stroll along the Marina. Visit the daily fruit and fish market and sample the tropical fruits. Watch the traditional embroidery-making in progress. Go to a Madeira wine tasting. Shop for a bargain or just sit at a street café and watch the world go by.

Enjoy the flowers!  Explore the Madeira Botanical Garden  and the Emperor's Gardens. Visit Boa Vista Orchids and have tea on the lawn. Enjoy the many flower filled parks and tree-lined streets in Funchal.

What goes up…!   Take the cable car up to Monte and enjoy a stunning view of Funchal bay, and then come down at high speed in one of the famous wicker toboggans.

That’s all folks!  Join the party at a typical Madeiran Folk Evening, with a delicious traditional meal with Madeira wine, folk singing and dancing. Or dress up for a classy afternoon tea at the Reid's Palace hotel, a favourite of Winston Churchill.

Over the hills and far away!  Hire an air-conditioned car and discover what the rest of Madeira has to offer. Enjoy amazing volcanic mountain scenery, the pretty towns with their little cobbled streets, and all the beautiful plants, trees and nature.

Flying high!  Explore this beautiful island from the air accompanied by your own experienced pilot. Try a helicopter flight, hot air balloon or paragliding adventure to remember. The first paragliding centre on Madeira is just three minutes drive away in Arco da Calheta.

Ahoy there!   Explore the island coastline by sea, in your choice of vessel - a catamaran, a wooden 15th century replica sailing ship, or hire your own luxury yacht or big game fishing boat for the day. Sightings of whales and dolphins included – possibly!

Back to the wild!   Put on your walking boots and enjoy shady levadas and stunning canyons, with an experienced guide to keep you on the path. Visit the Nature Reserve for miles of unspoilt walking and your own barbecue lunch, replica watches cooked out in the open. Smell the eucalyptus trees. Take your binoculars for a spot of bird watching.

Learn something new!  Visit the Calheta Culture and Arts Centre, the Museum of Electricity, Madeira Magic, The Madeira Theme Park, The Madeira Story Centre, The Volcanic Caves at Sao Vicente, The Sugar City Museum, The Modern Art Museum, The Ethnographic Museum, The Rosarium, The Whale Museum, The Living Science Centre and Aquarium at Porto Moniz, and The Madeira Wine Museum, to name just a few of the cultural and educational attractions on the island.

Saddle up!  Explore a more rugged Madeira in the saddle with a horse ride, trek or a gentle donkey ride with the children.

Get wet!   Visit tiny, secluded beaches, use the Lidos or public swimming pools around the island, including the natural rock pools at Porto Moniz. Visit the Aqua Park for a full day of watery fun. Go scuba diving or snorkelling in the clear, warm, almost tropical waters and explore the underground caves.

Get lucky?  Dress up for a visit the Casino and take in one of the Dinner Shows and live music. Maybe try your hand at roulette or blackjack. You never know…

Adrenalin Rush!  Choose your transport… kayaks, mountain bikes, go karts, moto-quads, jet skis and jeep safaris are all available to get your pulse racing.

Go Golfing!  Sample Madeira's golfing opportunities, including Palheiro Golf in Funchal,  Clube Golfe in Santo da Serra, or visit Porto Santo Golfe, designed by Severiano Ballesteros on nearby Porto Santo island.

Sail Away!   Cruise first class to Porto Santo and enjoy wide, golden sandy beaches and crystal clear sea. Sail off to the uninhabited Desert Island, and see the wildlife in its natural habitat.
